Catching Up with the Clarkstown ‘89’s

Members of the Clarkstown Soccer Club are now excelling at college soccer.  The group aptly named the “89’s due the fact they all had a birth year of 1989 are now achieving success at a very high playing level.  The core group of the ‘89s formed when they were 8 years old and continued to play together thru graduating from high school.  Their love for the sport never diminished and even now reunited each summer to compete in Under 23 competition.

Kyle Hoffer (Bardonia/Albertus Magnus H.S.) just completed his first season at # 3 nationally ranked (div 1) St. Johns.    Kyle a transfer from Oneonta State played in 9 games while starting 3 games.  Kyle entered into the national semifinal game in the 2nd overtime in a heartbreaking loss to eventual national champions, University of Maryland.

Vinny Costa (Stony Point/Albertus Magnus H.S.) a junior at Drew University (div 3) played in 20 matches this past season starting 18.  Drew University was ranked as high as 17th nationally this past season.  The Rangers lost a first round NCAA match to Christopher Newport.  Vinny is a Landmark Conference All-Academic Selection.

Matt Beckley (Congers/Don Bosco Prep) is a sophomore at Holy Cross University (div 1).  Holy Cross was the runners up in the Patriot League this past season, falling in the final to Colgate University.  Matt played in 16 matches, starting 5 games and scoring 2 goals.

Ben Meyerson (Nyack/Nyack H.S.) is a sophomore at Babson College(div 3).  Babson lost a 1st round NCAA match to Rhode Island College in a PK shootout.  Ben played in 17 matches while starting 1 game.  Myerson also added a goal and an assist.

Kevin Peters (Nanuet/Albertus Magnus H.S.) is a sophomore at Emerson College(div3).  Emerson reached the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference tournament,  losing to Norwich University.  Kevin played in 13 matches this past season.

Artan Balaj (New City/Clarkstown North) & Martin Palusivic(Suffern/Suffern H.S.) are both sophomores at Rockland Community College .  RCC just posted a 10-7-2 record this past season.  RCC lost in the 1st round to nationally ranked Dutchess C. C. in a Region XV tournament match.
